1. Test Strategy and Planning:
- Review requirements and user stories, and define test scope based on risk and business impact.
- Write test plans, test cases and checklists covering functional and non-functional requirements.
- Estimate testing effort and manage test priorities against sprint and release timelines.
2. Functional, Integration and Regression Testing:
- Test web, API and mobile applications as required by the project.
- Carry out functional, integration, regression, end-to-end and exploratory testing.
- Work with developers on unit and integration test coverage, and review it as part of the definition of done.
3. Test Automation:
- Design, build and maintain automated UI and API test suites (e.g. Playwright, Cypress, Selenium).
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and keep them stable and fast.
- Maintain regression suites and run them before every release.
4. Performance and Load Testing:
- Plan and run load, stress, spike and soak tests (e.g. k6, JMeter, Gatling).
- Define performance thresholds with the team and add them to CI where possible.
- Analyse results (response times, throughput, error rates, resource usage) and report bottlenecks.
5. AI in Testing:
- Use AI coding agents and assistants (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) to generate test cases, test data and automation scripts.
- Review AI-generated tests and application code for gaps, flaky waits, brittle selectors and false confidence.
- Test AI-powered features: non-deterministic outputs, prompt/response quality, safety and fallback behaviour.
6. Defect Management and Release Quality:
- Log, track and verify defects clearly in Jira (steps, evidence, environment, severity).
- Run smoke tests after deployments and report on release readiness and quality metrics.
- Run basic security checks (e.g. OWASP Top 10, OWASP ZAP) as part of regression.
7. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with developers, DevOps, PMs and client stakeholders.
- Take part in sprint ceremonies and requirement reviews.
- Communicate testing status, risks and results clearly, including pushing back on unsafe releases.
